CIO of the KBC Group
As CIO of the KBC Group, Rudi Peeters (51) certainly has a somewhat unexpected degree, i.e. a master's in biology and ecology from the Catholic University of Leuven. With this background, Peeters not only adopts a “common sense” approach to green ICT in the new Hungarian data center and to telework opportunities, but is also a firm believer in biological principles as “self-regulating systems” Meaning that given a bottom up or top down impetus in a team, one obtains a new “fit to survive” organisation that is adapted to the situation. He argues that it works both in the lean and agile approach to projects - with self-regulating teams - as for mainframe projects (with adapted 'sprints'), and in his desire for new architectures. His long career - first Cera and KBC - and vast experience - marketing, strategy, CIO - also gives him the necessary credibility across the board. He explicitly goes for a business-geared entrepreneurial approach towards ICT. To pursue this objectives, he parsimoniously devotes a budget that is again on the rise to 'smart sourcing' (that includes 50 new employees already this year), with a view to sustainable business support. In short, a full life in which he still finds time for sport: mountain biking and squash, as well as presentations in CIO circles (which earned him the award for 'Best Speaker of the Year 2013' from CIOnet) and nature walks.
