Erik Cuypers, CIO JBC

Foto Erik CuypersErik Cuypers has been CIO at fashion chain JBC for one and a half year. During this period, he has started up a large-scale digital transformation project. The so-called 'omni-channel' approach whereby JBC integrates its online and offline retail channels, is considered to be state-of-the-art, according to an audit by Jo Caudron. "1 customer, 1 order, 1 promotion, 1 stock: it sounds simple enough, but only a few store chains operate in the same way as we do now," that's how the CIO summarizes the concept that combines logistics, (digital) marketing and e-commerce.

This was not his first achievement. Until May 2011 Erik had already been CIO of Thomas Cook where he also focused primarily on digitisation. Before that, he held various management roles, including head of communication at ING, CIO at Vanbreda, managing director of Cronos and CEO of Standaard Uitgeverij. After his position with Thomas Cook, he took a sabbatical and briefly joined the VUB as interim program manager. Erik Cuypers is also a fervent networker and active in MIT Club, the association of CIOs, where last year he succeeded Luc Verhelst as chairman.
